Science: Body Systems - Skeletal System

Today we looked at the spinal system.  In a previous chapter we discussed vertebrates/invertebrates.  Now we wanted to discover why our spine is made the way it is.
What do animals need to do?  Move.  Why?  To find food...and not BE food.

Vertebrae: The spine is a column of small bones, or vertebrae, that support the entire upper body.
Disks: Vertebrae in the spinal column are separated from each other by small cushions of cartilage.
Spinal cord: A column of nerve tissue that runs from the base of the skull down the back.  These nerves carry most messages between the brain and the rest of the body controlling movement.
We created three combinations to test:  1.  Minty-O's only  2.  Squishy O's only  3.  Alternating squishy and minty O's.  We used a pull and peel as the spinal cord.

Students made a chart for observations.
